MAITREYA (1930-1990)

 MAITREYA was also known in the flesh as Dr. Madan Handa, was a professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (O.I.S.E.), University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  He was on the faculty of O.I.S.E. since 1966, the year he completed his doctorate in Econometrics from London School of Economics, London, England, until his physical departure from his earthly abode on July 7, 1990.
According to age old traditions, with the experience of Spiritual Enlightenment, a lot of the old falls and is replaced with the new.  This may include the name given at the time of physical birth by the parents and society.  Therefore Dr. Madan Handa took the name "MAITREYA", as it came to him as a part of his Enlightenment Experience in 1984.  The literal meaning of "MAITREYA" is a compassionate and loving friend.
MAITREYA was a very unique teacher within academia, Spiritually Enlightened, an expert in the field of social sciences, and a scholar of Eastern philosophies.  He was extensively involved in the consciousness raising process within and outside the university through lectures, talks, seminars, media, radio and television.  He was the president of The Learned Society of Asian Scholars in Canada (1978-1980) and, the Canadian Asian Studies Association.  He was also the founder and head of a number of South Asian societies working for multiculturalism in Canada.
As a professional social scientist MAITREYA (Dr. Madan Handa) had wide interest, including graduate teaching, research and writing work over extensive range of subjects like Political, Economy, Third World Thought, Multiculturalism, Anti-Racism, Historiography, etc. His major work and contribution in the field of social sciences was in developing an alternative world outlook, an integral peace paradigm, THE COSMIC WAY PARADIGM.  In THE COSMIC WAY PARADIGM, MAITREYA lays bare the interconnection of Spirituality, Ecology and Global Peace and bridges the Spiritual and Social spheres of human life.
